Life of Pi by nyackschools |
The book Life of Pi deals with a boy named Pi Patel and his remarkable journey adrift the open waters for 227 days, with his only companion being a Bengal tiger. The book begins in Pondicherry, India at Pi’s family zoo. The Patel family ends up moving to Canada aboard a freight ship carrying them and half of their zoo animals that are being sold. Along the journey, the ship sinks, leaving Pi alone in a lifeboat with a dangerous 400-pound Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. Pi and Richard Parker deal with the risk of starvation and dehydration as well as the danger of sharing a boat with each other. Yann Martel created this entertaining and thought-provoking novel that kept me hooked throughout. The relationship between Pi and Richard Parker amazed me; their process of communicating was so fascinating and they were both so in tune with each other down to their body language and over-all mood. Martel managed to weave a fantastic story and in the end challenges you to believe it all.
